Google Update Dewey
Last year Google suggested that they made around 425 changes to their main search algorithm and that they would be trickling these changes into the online SERP's bit by bit since then.
We have noticed that there is a big change on-going at the moment and it has been labelled "Dewey" after a post by Google's "front of house" man Matt Cutts.
Now ,whenever there is a change in any search engines algorithm it reflects on the Search Engine rankings.
Usually there is a lot of fluctuation on the rankings.
This all settles down once the update is fully in place and rankings also recover.
Google is not officially saying that any update is going on but there was a recent post from Google employee, Matt Cutt, asking for feedback from people who have seen major changes and fluctuations in the rankings .
Here is a link to view his comments

Primary research shows that the updates are based on
1.Back links
2.Content
3.Back link relevancy
4.Quality of content.
5.On page optimisation factors.
6.Age of a website.
Google seem to prefer older sites in some cases, although it is all very early stages.
We have been seeing some updates in page ranks etc .
Fortunately going towards the positive point and taking the link building process into consideration we have also been seeing the total number of results changing.
As these updates are dropping in it is possible to see major fluctuations in the search engine rankings till it all settles down.........
