Welcome To The teclan Million Steps for Mikey's Line Challenge 2021 Page
2020 was a tough year, with many people travelling as little as possible, to limit the spread of Covid-19. This meant being cooped up in relatively small spaces, perhaps with a lack of fresh air and exercise. As we care about our clients and our community, the team at teclan decided to create a challenge to get us all outside walking or running. We found both mental and physical health benefits from walking, or running, each day. https://www.walkingforhealth.org.uk/get-walking/why-walk/healthy-minds
“At Mikeysline, our ultimate aim is suicide prevention. We were established in 2015 following the suicides of two close friends within days of each other, Mikey Williamson and Martin Shaw, both aged 23. Our textline service was set up to provide an anonymous, safe, confidential way to access peer support, a listening ear from someone who understands what that person may be feeling, having their own live experience of mental health issues. We also operate a drop in centre, The Hive, on Academy Street in Inverness, which is temporarily closed due to COVID. Lockdown has greatly affected our fundraising as so many large annual events have been cancelled but we are so very grateful to everyone for their fundraising initiatives which will enable us to keep the service operational”
In July 2020, we managed to collectively walk almost 30 million steps and raised £5,000 with the help of 9 other fantastic local teams!
We challenged local businesses to get involved too and walk a million steps for Mikeysline. For every 10,000 steps walked, team members pledged to donate £1. We were delighted by the enthusiasm of all involved and are so grateful to everyone who took part!
Throughout the month of July (and beyond), we will celebrate Mikeysline and all businesses who take part in our challenge across social media and our website. Fancy supporting us?
Stay tuned for an update of steps in 2021...
